Mushroom Beef and Rocket Salad

This Mushroom Beef and Rocket Salad recipe makes a great lunch


  • 60ml olive oil
  • 350g big brown mushrooms sliced
  • 2 red onions cut into thin wedges
  • 300g beef sirloin steak, trimmed
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes cut into wedges
  • 1 bunch rocket leaves, washed and drained (or any other green salad leaves of your choice)
  • salt and ground black pepper, to taste


  • Combine 30ml olive oil and salt and pepper in a medium bowl. Add mushrooms and onions and toss to coat in oil mixture.
  • Preheat braai to medium-high heat
  • Brush both sides of steak with 30ml olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Place steak onto braai and cook for 3-4 minutes (for medium) on each side or until cooked to your liking. Remove to a plate, cover with foil and set aside.
  • Meanwhile, place mushrooms and onions onto a braai plate on top of grill and cook, tossing frequently, for 2-3 minutes or until tender. Remove to a plate.
  • Place tomatoes onto same braai plate on the grill and cook for 1 minute on each side or until warmed through Slice steak, across the grain, into thin slices.
  • Place steak, mushrooms and onions and tomatoes into a heatproof bowl and toss gently to combine.
